The Silver Pen Writers' Association is an IRS recognized 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. We started with a concept: provide information and mentoring needed to produce quality writing and quality online publications to showcase excellent stories, poems, essays and novels.
We are developing a workshop on Point of View, which will encompass many basic and advanced aspects of POV, including distant vs. far, internal vs. external, first, second and third person, singular vs. plural, narrator, omniscient, and many other facets of this keystone to a great story.
Another planned workshop will be how to create, write and edit poetry. In addition, we are developing a workshop on how to edit manuscripts, including looking at plot, characters, dialog, voice, style and line-edit issues. We will also develop workshops, templates and classes for improved methods for self-editing, and enhanced critiquing of stories and poems.
Other concepts were investigating include a vacation school-like workshop for creative writing, especially for children in under-served locations; a writing contest for a scholarship; and launching a publication that would have student staff, and would seek assistance from teachers, marketing professionals, editors, and publishers.
Silver Pen is also developing a site for kids who want to learn how to write. The Kids'Magination Writing Center will provide activities and fiction writing workshop opportunities for elementary age children, as well as the online publication of stories for our youth to read and enjoy.
Within Silver Pen we have the Silver Pen Forum. We plan to use this forum to help members workshop and network, to seek grant monies for increasing creative writing and poetry; helping publications become more professional; and most importantly, help writers.
